Entry Requirements
US and Canadian citizens are not required to present a valid passport upon entrance into mexico. All visitors are required to obtain a tourist card that is valid for up to 180 days. Tourist cards can be purchased for $20 at the border or at the airport when you arrive. All visitors who remain withing 16 miles of the border, or who visit for less than 72 hours are not required to obtain a tourist card.
Money/Currency
The Peso is the official currency of Mexico and can be exchanged at banks and money exchange houses (casas de cambio). Most banks are open Monday – Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. Some ATM’s will accept US account information, allowing US visitors to withdraw cash from their bank accounts.
Major credit cards are accepted at most establishments, as are travelers checks. Be prepared to present id when making purchases with either of these forms of payment. While some establishments will accept dollars as payment, please remember that the Peso is the only legal tender currency in Mexico.
Medical Emergencies
Mexico City offers excellent hospitals with modern facilities, and major resort destinations also have suitable medical institutions as well.
